On 17th February, 1915, the 1st York & Lancaster battalion of 83 Brigade, 28th Division moved from billets in the Infantry barracks at Ypres and took over trenches at Verbrandenmolen where they remained until relieved on 20th February. At 9am on 20th February, the enemy broke through the trenches held by 1st Welsh on their right and a number of units, including the 1st York & Lancaster battalion were called upon to recapture the lost trenches. At some stage during the day William Neave was killed. |
